Car handling specialists Marlog used 300 sets of Trans-Rak’s sustainable* reusable R-Rak vehicle racking system for a major shipment of brand new zero emission BMW i3s.

It’s a startling fact that finished vehicles were the last product in the world to be containerised for shipment across the globe. So, when Paul Donaldson looked at the traditional way of constructing vehicle racking with ‘wood, string and nails’, he knew he had to come up with an alternative, if it was to be done properly.

 Many would be surprised and concerned about the use of outdated wooden racking - from the point of view of those troublesome nails posing a threat to the paintwork; to the issue of sustainability, and simple economics.

Global automotive logistics provider GEFCO is undertaking trials on behalf of BMW to assess the reliability, lead times and quality control of a ‘Silk Road’ solution for transporting cars in containers by rail from Europe to China.

As demand for Chinese cars in Russia increases, being able to deliver the finished vehicles in the shortest time possible is a real advantage. That is why SWIFT Transport International Logistics has ordered an additional 60 R-Raks from Trans-Rak International.

A major Russian automotive logistics provider has cut transit times between Wuhan and Moscow by more than half, shipping cars in containers overland and utilising the flexible R-Rak system from Trans-Rak to optimise loading.

Global vehicle shipping specialist AutoBox Logistics, part of the Cargo Marketing Group, relied on the inherent flexibility of the R-RAK vehicle racking system for a shipment of no fewer than six Caterham cars to Japan streamlining the process and saving on freight costs.

The first BMW block train was unloaded in Chongqing, China in pristine condition, with a scenic backdrop. The unloading and facilities were provided by GEFCO and Minsheng. By fitting 4 cars into each container, costs and pollution were both minimised.

As the patented design of its R-Rak removable vehicle racking system was approaching its 10th birthday, the team at Trans-Rak turned to Loughborough University to take part in a Total Product Design project.

During a recent inspection by Trans-Rak of our Chinese manufacturing facility, a number of videos were commissioned in order to better assist with both promotion and training. There is a sales video, highlighting how the R-Rak benefits customers in a wide array of ways, ranging from reducing costs of transporting vehicles across the globe, to environmental benefits.
