What Is A Roll On Roll Off Vehicle Shipping?

The advent of dedicated RoRo vehicle carrying ocean going ships made that mode of transport the most popular by far for sending cars around the world. It is cheap but slow and the range of destinations is restricted. However, for clients who need a large consignment delivered to a port serviced by one of these ships, there is no cheaper method.

Covered car transport services have traditionally been associated with the prestige end of the market. It has long been the favoured method for transporting vehicles such as liveried racing cars, prestige and classic cars, and open top cars. There are several benefits that lend appeal:

The more changeovers involved in a journey the greater the risk becomes. The solution to this problem was transporting vehicles by secure shipping container; however while the risk of damage was reduced, with a small floor space this option was also more costly.

Containerised shipping removes practically all of the risks involved in transporting cars and other vehicles, especially over long distances. It is more flexible than RoRo because container shipping vessels call to far more ports worldwide than do ocean going RoRo ships. Also, containers can be shipped on to further destinations after landing with no additional intervention by the sender. It is also probably the best way to guard against accidental damage, weathering or theft en route as the vehicles are locked inside a secure steel container.
