The 2023 G20 Leaders’ Summit, which took place in New Delhi, India, in September 2023, was a momentous occasion for the logistics sector – and one that could influence the future of international intermodal transport for decades to come.

From the perspective of the industry, the most important initiative was the launch of the long-awaited India-Middle East-Europe Economic Shipping Corridor. This intermodal transport network, although currently only existing largely on paper, is expected to enhance connectivity and economic integration across the Europe-Middle East-India region and spur greater sustainability and inclusive economic development.

The plan will involve strengthening and improving regional infrastructure, taking down trade barriers, and fostering closer economic cooperation between businesses and nation states to facilitate the faster movement of goods and services. The specifics of the project, including budget, timeline, and exact route, are still under discussion, but if successful, it is likely to enhance the position of India as a major international logistics hub.

The new corridor will be of particular interest to international businesses that have adopted a China Plus One strategy since the pandemic to reduce dependence on Chinese supply chains. This has included moves to set up production or supporting supply chains in other Asian countries, such as Thailand, Vietnam, or India, to mitigate the risks and challenges associated with over-dependence on China – and to avoid having to use Russian and Ukrainian supply networks between the Far East and Europe.

How we can help

Trans-Rak is ideally placed to support automotive logistics businesses to take full advantage of the benefits of the economic corridor, and our company commitment to sustainability is fully aligned with the declared goals of the economic corridor stakeholders. By enabling businesses to reduce emissions and optimise space utilisation in shipping containers, we can help transport businesses save money and contribute to the corridor’s environmental objectives.

For businesses using the new shipping corridor, our products can help connect customers and suppliers in different regions within the corridor by providing efficient and secure vehicle transportation solutions across transport modalities. Our racking systems enable the efficient loading and unloading of vehicles and goods within a containerised transport supply chain, reducing handling time, and maximising space utilisation and cost efficiency. The benefits of this include a smoother logistics operation, more timely delivery vehicles, and less risk of delays, as well as reduced damage from accident, theft, and vandalism.
