3 Ways Environmentally Friendly Shipping Can Reduce Your Vehicle Transportation Costs

International freight shipping has come under increased scrutiny in recent years due to its negative impact on the environment. Busy shipping lanes are a source of oceanic pollution, consume huge quantities of fossil fuels, and the noise produced by large liners is disruptive to sea life.

Part, at least, of the solution, is for international transport businesses to use fewer, larger, greener, and quieter container ships.

Trans-Rak steel racking systems are also leading the way for greener containerised vehicle transportation. Our steel racking is far less wasteful than traditional wooden racking, which wastes goods and places containerised vehicles at risk of damage. Our solution to containerised shipping ensures that your cars are protected, handled with care and also aims to decrease carbon emissions that are produced by the shipping industry.

Environmentally conscious shipping methods can also reduce the costs of your vehicle transportation in a number of ways.

1) Decreased Number Of Journeys

Our re-usable racking systems allow you to transport different combinations of vehicle size, and increase vehicle occupancy per container, which means that fewer containers are needed for transportation. This helps to cut down the number of journeys that are needed to transport all of your vehicles, which will help to lower the overall carbon footprint of the process. Shipping container transport can be expensive, so fitting multiple vehicles into just one will help you to cut the costs of your vehicle transportation. Our products also reduce the cost of return transport, with a single container able to accommodate 45 El-RAKs or 60 R-RAKs.

The most common alternative to container shipping is 'Roll On, Roll Off' transport ships. This method involves the vehicles being physically driven from ships to trains and onwards to reach their final destination. The Ro-Ro method requires many smaller journeys from each mode of transportation, which contributes to the overall carbon footprint of each vehicle and also puts them at risk of being damaged in transportation. The costs of this transport damage can really add up! Container ships, on the other hand, are capable of larger ocean journeys and fewer changes, so are a far more efficient method of transportation.

2) High Efficiency

The efficiency of the R-Rak helps to lower the costs of repositioning and ensures that transportation is being used to its optimal capacity. This all goes towards reducing the amount of energy that is used for the embarkation and disembarkation process, as well as reducing vehicle transportation costs.

3) Fuel Costs

The ability to ship more vehicles on one container ship will massively lower the costs of fuel that shipping companies usually pay out. This means that companies may be able to lower their costs of service long term and offer more affordable rates to customers. Making the most of space and using efficient racking systems to load as many vehicles onto one ship as possible will save money for both the shipping company and the companies that use the ships to transport their goods.
