With the climate crisis showing no signs of abating, sustainability has become a prime concern across many global industries, particularly where the transportation of goods between countries and continents is concerned.
At Trans-Rak, we are committed to providing our clients with cost-effective and efficient solutions that enable them to move vehicles between locations quickly and safely, while minimising the damage to the environment. We recognise, however, that a commitment to sustainability shouldn’t just apply to the vehicle transit itself, but throughout the supply chain, including the manufacture of our vehicle loading racks.
Metal VS Wood: The Environmental Debate
At Trans-Rak, we use high-grade steel for all our vehicle loading systems as an alternative to wood which is potentially unsafe, unstable, expensive, and environmentally unfriendly. Our R-RAK system, for example, which was developed as a replacement for wooden solutions, is a superior alternative to wood for several reasons:
- Wooden racks are more harmful to the environment, particularly because of the fumigation process which damages fragile ecosystems and human health.
- The R-RAC system has a lifespan of between seven and ten years, which exceeds that of wooden racks, with less vulnerability to wear and tear and corrosion.
- Steel production has a higher recycling rate and lower carbon footprint compared to wood production processes, such as logging and lumber milling.
- Metal racks are better equipped to withstand a wide range of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, moisture, and exposure to sunlight. This durability reduces the likelihood of degradation over time, ensuring that metal racks remain functional and effective for longer periods.
Our Zero-Waste Philosophy
At Trans-Rak, we are committed to minimising waste at every stage of vehicle shipping. Our steel racks are 100 per cent recyclable, so there will be no excess waste at the end of the life, and they can also be removed from containers after use and refitted, irrespective of the container’s size. This means our clients can benefit from frequent use of each rack during its lifespan, without needing to constantly upgrade to different systems.
Also, our innovative solutions allow for optimum use of space in each container, so operators can accommodate more vehicles in each space, thereby reducing the environmental impact of shipping.
